Mountain adventure and refreshing lakes are so close to each other here in the Nassfeld-Pressegger See Region, you couldn’t wish for a better combination! Whether as a couple, with the family or friends – nearby Nassfeld with the Carnic Ridge and many alpine pastures and the close proximity to Italy offer plenty of action, stunning views and excellent Alpine-Adriatic cuisine. And then a dive into the up to 28°C warm water of Lake Pressegger See – what could be more beautiful?
Two long-distance hiking trails – the Carnic High Route and the Gailtal Valley High Route – offer hiking fans a surprising range of views across our beautiful region. The Carnic High Route, also known as Peace Trail, leads along the Italian border and combines stunning views with historic positions from the times of World War II. The Gailtal Valley High Route is not as known yet but is an insider tip and is by no means less beautiful than its southern neighbour!
If you prefer a racy pace on two wheels and are looking for an adrenalin kick, then is our mountain bike paradise in the heart of the stunning Carnic & Gailtal Valley Alps just perfect for you. With 730 km of border-crossing cycle & mountain bike tracks, you can choose new routes every day. Our sophisticated network of bike buses takes you back in comfort and you don’t need to worry about the length of your tour.
We have something for everyone! Lake Pressegger See is perfect for families – with Carinthia’s 1st Adventure Park and the surrounding lidos, the tranquil, up to 28°C warm Lake Pressegger See makes children happy and parents can enjoy blissful relaxation. Our little heroes experience new adventures with Fix & Foxi in the Realm of the Lake Witch or in the Realm of the Wild Bunch at Nassfeld and on the Almrausch mountain playground high up at the Gartnerkofel!
The fjord-like turquoise blue Lake Weissensee is only 10 minutes away. It is not only one of the most beautiful lakes in Austria, but also the highest-situated swimming lake in the Alps and its eastern shore is absolutely pristine! A beautiful excursion by boat, for example, takes you from Techendorf at the western shore to the eastern shore. A leisurely walk along the lakeside will take you back afterwards. Lake Weissensee also offers quite some culinary highlights! Tasty creations made of local fish and other regional products turn into culinary treats.
The nearby high plateau of the Hermagor Bodenalm is the perfect location for the local mountain dairy farmers to make their own cheese specialities. The Hermagor Bodenalm is also a recreational area very popular with the locals. A once thriving glassmaking company in Tscherniheim made this small valley famous a long time ago.
A stunning view to Lake Weissensee can also be enjoyed on a hiking tour along the gentle slopes or on a tour across the new single trails, which can be reached easily by using the Weissensee Mountain Railways.
