Here in the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region, the mountain experience is so close to the refreshing lake that you couldn't wish for any other combination! Whether as a couple, with family or friends - the nearby Nassfeld with the Carnic mountain ridge and numerous alpine pastures and its proximity to Italy offers plenty of action, breathtaking views and perfect Alpine-Adriatic cuisine. And then a dip in Lake Presseggersee, which is up to 28°C warm - what could be better?
With two long-distance hiking trails - the Carnic High Trail and the Gailtal High Trail - hiking enthusiasts get a surprising number of views of our beautiful region. The Carnic High Trail along the Italian border, also known as the Peace Trail, combines breathtaking views with historic positions from the Second World War. The Gailtaler Höhenweg, on the other hand, is not yet so well known, but as an insider tip it is in no way inferior to its southern neighbor!

Lake Weissensee
Just a few kilometers from Schloss Lerchenhof lies Lake Weissensee - one of the most beautiful bathing lakes in Carinthia. The turquoise-colored, crystal-clear lake at 930 m above sea level is a real natural gem and is considered the highest bathing lake in the Alps. In summer, Lake Weissensee is ideal for swimming, diving, stand-up paddling, hiking and cycling - surrounded by untouched nature, quiet bays and breathtaking mountain scenery.
In winter, it becomes the largest permanently frozen natural ice surface in Europe - ideal for ice skating, cross-country skiing or winter hiking. Slow Food Travel
The Gailtal and Lesachtal valleys in Carinthia were named the world's first Slow Food Travel Destination. Here, regional producers have always lived the Slow Food philosophy and share their traditional craftsmanship with visitors - from baking bread to making cheese, from extracting honey to preparing polenta.
Travelers discover kitchens, maturing cellars and workshops of small businesses, learn about ancient knowledge and gain a new appreciation for the value of handmade food. The aim is to consciously experience the origins of our food again.
Slow Food Travel experience in the castle
This philosophy is also practiced at Hotel Schloss Lerchenhof. At the “Fascination of Speck” seminar, guests learn everything about the production of Gailtaler Speck PGI - from animal husbandry to smoking. Six months after the seminar, participants receive a piece of their own speck by post, complete with certificate - in keeping with the motto: “Give the product time.”
